Cancellation and Refund Policy

On this page

1 Scope and mandatory protections

This policy concerns commissioned editorial and writing services provided by Larkwell Editorial. It applies alongside the accepted proposal and any signed agreement. Consumer cancellation rights, service guarantees, and other mandatory protections vary by location and transaction. Nothing here excludes a right that cannot lawfully be excluded or makes a payment automatically non-refundable.

2 Sending a cancellation request

Send a clear cancellation request to projects@larkwelleditorial.com, identifying the client, project, and requested stop date. We will confirm the status of the work and explain the account reconciliation. Please do not assume that sending replacement instructions to an individual contributor cancels an engagement. We will take reasonable steps to avoid unnecessary further work after receiving a clear cancellation notice.

3 Before work begins

If an engagement is cancelled before editorial work begins, the advance for unperformed work is returned, subject only to a lawful, proportionate, clearly disclosed and accepted charge or an authorized unavoidable external cost already incurred. The normal advance is 40% of the agreed total. Paying that advance does not automatically make it non-refundable.

Any reservation fee, cancellation charge, or authorized outside cost must be explained before acceptance. It cannot be introduced retrospectively by reference to this page. Statutory withdrawal or refund rights apply where legally required.

4 After work has begun

Where permitted by the agreement and applicable law, the account is reconciled against the work actually performed up to cancellation and any authorized, unavoidable external cost. The agreed milestone allocation or rate supplies the calculation. We explain the work, deductions, and any amount still properly payable. An unearned balance of the 40% advance is refunded; a complete advance is not kept merely because a first draft was started.

If the value of properly chargeable completed work exceeds the advance, any additional amount depends on the agreement and applicable law. Cancellation does not authorize undisclosed penalties or charges for work that was not performed. Any adjustment to a multi-service discount must follow the terms agreed before commissioning and must not operate as an undisclosed cancellation penalty.

5 Consumer withdrawal periods

Some consumers may have a statutory period to withdraw from a distance or off-premises service contract. Where applicable, required information, notices, and any model cancellation form must be supplied before contracting. Starting during that period requires any express request the law demands. Any loss of a withdrawal right on full performance requires the legally prescribed conditions and acknowledgement. A general website checkbox or this policy alone does not replace those steps.

6 Postponement and scope reduction

If you need to pause, reduce, or reschedule work, we will discuss available options and confirm any change in writing. Completed work and authorized commitments may remain payable where lawful. New dates depend on capacity and outstanding inputs. A pause is not automatically a forfeiture of an advance, an indefinite extension, or approval to charge for work that has not been performed.

7 Cancellation by the company

If we cannot complete the agreed work, we will explain the position, provide appropriate material already completed, and refund the unearned amount, subject to any greater remedy required by law. If termination concerns misuse, non-payment, missing authority, or prohibited content, we will identify the relevant contractual basis and reconcile the account. Termination does not create ownership rights in client material.

8 Service quality and remedies

Please tell us about an apparent failure to meet the brief and allow a reasonable opportunity to assess it, without prejudice to any right to seek another remedy. Depending on the problem and applicable law, correction, repeat performance, a price reduction, a partial refund, a full refund, or another remedy may be appropriate. Disagreement with a reasonable editorial preference does not alone establish a service failure.

9 Refund processing

We confirm the reconciliation and issue an approved refund within any applicable statutory deadline. The method and expected processing time are explained in the confirmation, normally using the original payment route where available. The financial provider may need additional time to post the refund. No undisclosed processing deduction is imposed and no statutory remedy is conditioned on a new purchase.

The website's project form itself collects no money, so preparing or discarding an on-page brief creates no refund transaction. Refund questions concern payments actually made under a separately agreed engagement.

10 Materials and unresolved concerns

Cancellation does not authorize use of drafts beyond the rights granted in the agreement. Client originals, confidential information, outstanding permissions, and any rights in paid work are handled under the relevant policies. If you disagree with a calculation or outcome, send the reasons and supporting information to projects@larkwelleditorial.com. This process does not prevent a lawful payment dispute, regulatory complaint, or other remedy.
